Action 1: Boundaries

When you implement Essential Flow you may implement it for your whole organization, or perhaps for just part of your organization. If you try it for just part of your organization you should be aware of where the flow of work you are trying to manage comes from as it enters that part and of where it goes when it leaves that part.

If Essential Flow improves the flow of work through just part of an organization it may cause both upstream and downstream disturbances. In the best case Essential Flow will cause work to flow more smoothly in the part where it is being used and will significantly increase the rate at which it flows.
